Simple exercise for nourishing appreciative presence.
Here's a simple exercise which can be deeply grounding and relaxing. This will help focus one's energy into the present and rejuvenate feelings of natural appreciation, sensitivity & calm pleasure .
In an environment where there is no need to rush, nothing to get out of the way of quickly to avoid being injured, quietly and slowly breathe with full inhalations and exhalations.
Feel your body and it's alignment in space. Whether you are standing, sitting, reclining or squatting, very slowly begin to move the little bit.
If you are standing, ever so slowly begin to pick up one of your feet and hover it above the ground.
Take at least a few seconds or longer to move into this one-legged position. Savor the slow movement.
Breathing in ... Breathing out.
Releasing any forward-leaning obsession with the next step or future, relax in alignment where you are now.
There is nowhere to be but here now.
Now very smoothly, slowly begin to step the foot that is raised gently, sensitively forward to graduallt roll the foot from the heel to the toes until the entire foot is grounding - connecting with the Earth.
You are a trying to get nowhere. You simply are here where you are in the fluid now. In the fluid present .
Continue this process for a while.
Relax open into it.
Whether intentionally given the same name as present in the sense of a gift , present in the sense of the current moment is indeed a generous gift of life.
Cliche though it may have become to say it, it is true that we do not know how long we have to live on the Earth. We truly may die at any moment.
Inevitably we will.
Even if we live a full human adult life span, it is relatively infinitesimal when considering the expansive reach of space and time.
So savor each moment of stillness , each step and the sweet refined delicacy of the transitional movements and moments which ultimately make up everything .
Whatever goals we have, wherever we are trying to get to, whatever we are trying to do, whatever we are doing it is all built on and made up of the so called in-between moments.
The transitions.
The steps.
The ordinary moments.
The present.
